Seats, competition & cost — the honest picture
Competition: Very High. NEET-UG draws ~23–24 lakh candidates for roughly 1.1 lakh MBBS seats.
Cost: Government seats are inexpensive (often under ₹1L/yr); private MBBS commonly runs ₹60L–1Cr+ total.
Affordability route: A strong NEET rank → government seat is the affordable route; state quotas and central scholarships help.

The abroad route — Medicine abroad (US: pre-med→MD; UK: MBBS via UCAT)
Destinations: UK · US · Australia · Ireland
How: UK: UCAT + UCAS (a few seats for internationals; very competitive)
How: US: 4-yr pre-med degree first, then MCAT → MD (8+ years total)
Costs: UK medicine ₹45–60L/yr; US route is the longest and costliest overall; Ireland ₹45–55L/yr. Aid for international medicine is rare — this is the most budget-sensitive abroad path.
Timing: UCAT in Class 12 for the UK; decide early — routes differ completely by country.
